Lucky number 13

Day 10 - Sept 5, 2013

Journal entry by Giovanna Moses
Great nursing staff today. We had to change Katherine's dressing, not her clothes, but the bandage around the line that brings medicine deep into her blood stream. It wasn't easy, as removing a big band aid from a toddler never is. One nurse and I pinned Katherine down and another did the removal and replacement. Katherine did well as did the nurse handling a screaming baby. Somehow Katherine moved 90 degrees even though we were holding her down during the procedure. Today also brought about the giving of a med that has to be given exactly 48 hours from the last chemo and then 60 hours from that same administration. This means tonight at 1:30 a.m. Katherine gets another dose. It is a disappointment that it is an oral med and can't just be pumped into her IV.
Katherine's NANNA and Zizi Annie came for a visit today. I met with the nutritionist, the social worker and the physical therapist... And then Katherine said her second word ever: pizza!
Thank you for your continued prayers.

Day 12 - Sept 7, 2013
Another day with Daddy. He's really doing a great job balancing home, job, big kids, and relieving mom at the hospital when it's her day to come home. Today Daddy and Katherine had more Pizza Pizza Pizza! They visited with our family friends, the Calvelli's, who brought Italian cookies to the hospital. YUM and THANK YOU! Katherine didn't have much of a nap today, but was in good spirits all day. Daddy even said that she was a big flirt with the doctors on Rounds. The thing that keeps coming back to me is how many children have been on this road before us. How many children have had troublesome symptoms? How is Katherine's treatment is both cancer killing and symptom averting! Our hearts go out to those who have been a part of the studies that makes today's treatment the best that it can be. No pictures today, as my phone cracked into a million pieces yesterday in the Healing Garden. Thank you Friends and Family who keep praying for Katherine's success. Her numbers are looking good and we're not even half way done. The other great news is that she suffers from very few symptoms from the chemotherapy thus far. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Day 13 - Sept 8 2013
Katherine is doing well. She's still symptom free for the most part. She will likely lose her hair this week. The prayers for her are such gifts. Thank you. She did have a little nosebleed and that's common for leukemia patients. Maybe tomorrow she'll get another transfusion. That will make number 5 thus far. She was ghost white earlier in the week and needed blood cells. I called her my little vampire. She perked right up after her transfusion. Thanks again to all donors. Here are a few pictures from our day.

Katherine is trying out her new beret. She wasn't too keen on keeping it on her head

I tucked her into a laundry basket full of all her hospital stuffed friends. She stayed in there just long enough for me to snap this picture. Then we practiced her signs and I think she's got over 20 signs. She's ready to learn; we just need more sign resources.

Annie and Daddy stopped by to drop off car keys! Thank you!

Packers played an exciting game. We watched the first half in the front part of the HOT unit.

Katherine indeed loves hugs, not probably as much as I do, but it's close! She's sleeping like a champ now and is back on IV fluids.

Thank you for your prayers.
